One Sunday over sixty years ago, several families in rural Souderton met for worship.
Their purpose: return to the fundamentals of the Christian faith through Bible reading, prayer, doctrine, and born-again salvation. As the community grew, the initial commitment of the members remained. A family atmosphere developed which welcomed newcomers. One early member recalls the first time she and her husband visited the fledgling community. Her Philadelphia dress and make-up didn’t fit into the plainer, Mennonite-influenced dress of most attenders. But that physical difference didn’t keep them on the outside. She remembers feeling welcomed and at home, even as the differences remained. Over the years GBC preached the importance of salvation and study of Scripture under the guidance of three pastors.
Today, GBC continues in the questioning path of the founders. As a community we struggle to balance truth with grace in biblical teaching within the context of an ever changing world. Together we seek a biblically-based life of joy within a world with much pain and confusion. We uphold the ancient values of the early church, while embracing the new questions posed to followers of Jesus. Together, we seek to live kingdom-focused, gospel-centered lives that value all people as Jesus did.
