Do I have to give money when the offering plate is passed around?
  • Do I have to give money when the offering plate is passed around?

Guests and new comers may choose to give; however, you are under no compulsion to do so.  People will not notice; God will not zap you.  Give if you feel led by God, his Spirit, and the scriptures.

According to the scriptures, we do encourage followers of Jesus (regular attendees and members) to serve him with their regular, monetary gifts which go to fund the mission of God through our local church.  Offering is a special time when worshippers continue to worship God with their tithes (biblical standard of 10% or more of your income) and offerings.  The Bible is clear that an important act of following Jesus is to give back a portion of the money God has given you.
